Location: The National Gallery of Portraits is located in Sector 17B, Chandigarh. It is one of the popular art galleries in Chandigarh and one gets enthralled by the collection of different photos of the freedom fighters, important documents and books on the freedom struggle of India.

Created: The National Gallery of Portraits is established in 1977 with an intention of making the young generation aware of the struggle of the great leaders of India for the independence. The people of colonial India have to do lots of sacrifices in order to get freedom. This national Gallery of Portraits exhibit all these things related with the Indian Struggle for Freedom to the common people.
About the place: The National Gallery of Portraits is open for the common people on all the days except the Sunday and Saturday and the official holidays. Chandigarh has the rich sources of culture and there are various creative people residing here. The collection of portraits, documents, sculptures, ceramic murals, books, recorded voices of important leaders of India are kept and exhibited to the common people. Most of these collections are the witness of the crucial struggle our great leaders and common people had to do in order to achieve the freedom of the country. The main attractions are the collection of different things related to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. There are more than 1000 photographs preserved here. On every Sunday at 2 p.m., a film on the freedom movement of the country is shown here to the public.

By Road: Bus and taxi services ply between Chandigarh and the other places of north India. One can take the state buses, Volvo buses, Deluxe or semi-Deluxe buses to reach Chandigarh.
By Train: Railways connect Chandigarh with most of the places of India very well. There are some good trains which connect Chandigarh and New Delhi.
By Air: The city is well connected to some important cities of the north India as the domestic airport is only 12 km away from the center of the city. Through the Delhi Airport, the city is connected to the international flights also.
